May 6-11, 2019 State #40

 

We stayed one week in the smallest state in our country, Rhode Island.

The RV park, Melville Ponds, was very quiet and had some beautiful trails as if it was a state park.

Providence

The Capitol was 40 minutes away from our park. We drove up one night after work/school to take our ‘Capitol usie’.

On a ‘weird but cool things to see in the city’ blog, I saw this post about the world’s largest bug.  We stopped by to witness the giant bug on the top of the New England Pest Control building. Not as cool as I was expecting.

We ate dinner, in the smoke stack district of Providence, at Al Forno Pizza. We were thinking this was a ‘pizza joint’ so we went in our really casual clothes only to find white linen table cloths. We enjoyed our fancy ‘in house’ pepperoni flower and our calamari brick oven pizza.

 

Newport

The Cliff Walk in Newport is a must see destination in Rhode island. It was only 35 minutes away.  One night we packed a picnic dinner and went after work/school.

The walk is a little over 3 miles long (one way) that runs along the shoreline with views of the mansions of the gilded age. There were QR codes in front of all the mansions that we could click on and learn the history of the house.

Most of the path is paved but there is a section that runs over rocks. We started at the ’40 steps’ inlet and walked south as the sunset.

Castle Hill Lighthouse

This granite light house was built in 1898. It’s not open to go inside but it is accessible from the parking lot of the adjacent inn. It was a perfect place to watch the sunset.

St. Mary’s Chruch

This is the church John F. Kennedy  married Jacqueline Lee Bouvier.

Fort Adams State Park

We stopped just because of the name:)

This was the library we used all week.
