Mt. Hood National Forest, OR

We visited Mt. Hood from our stay outside of Portland, OR, on April 8, 2018. IMG_0012It was a fun Sunday spent as a family.

Mount Hood is the tallest peak, 11,240 feet,  in Oregon located in the Cascade Volcanic Arc. It has 12 named glaciers.

Most of the area is closed but we found a fun spot to sled at the base of the active stratovolcano.

The Timberline lodge is a National Historic Landmark located on the southern flank of Mount Hood just below Palmer Glacier, with an elevation of about 6,000 feet. Timberline Lodge was dedicated 1937 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The exterior may look familiar from the filming of the The Shining. We

We enjoyed dinner in the upstairs more casual dining area called Rams Head. This dining area has views by the window of Mt Hood’d peak.

Government Camp where all the ski lifts are located is all closed up for the spring. There was one restraint open but we chose to eat at the historic Timberline Lodge.
